Manchester, Residential Market Snapshot, Spring 2018
Manchester’s residential market has experienced something of a renaissance over the last three, or four years, driven largely by the government’s vision to create a “Northern Powerhouse”.
In 2014, this culminated in the signing of the Greater Manchester Agreement, which has delivered devolved powers to the city.
The legislative changes effectively paved the way for reform and greater investment in upgrading infrastructure and helping Manchester govern itself in much the same way London does.
The changes have given Manchester’s first Mayor, Andy Burnham, the impetus to create a media and tech hub in the north to rival London, building on the success of Manchester’s MediaCityUK.
His decision to further boost what is arguably the fastest growing segment of the UK’s economy was spurred by the BBC’s decision to relocate to Manchester in 2010, following ITV’s move a year
earlier. In fact, in order to further boost employment in the sector, the Mayor has recently established a £2 million fund to help deliver Manchester’s Digital Strategy.
