Islington is home to a diverse range of residents as it offers a vast array of property types from large Georgian squares to modern apartments. Historically, it was a deprived area with the blitz destroying much of the region. However, post-war rebuilding and rapid gentrification has made it one of London’s most popular locations for well-heeled and cultured residents.
It’s extremely convenient for city workers given its proximity to the Square Mile, making it popular with young professionals. Trendy streets around Upper Street and Angel Station are in high demand, especially within the thriving flat market. There is also a family element with many good primary schools in the vicinity. Despite its proximity to the city there are relatively few chains with fashionable independent shops and restaurants dominating the area. Particular favourites are Frederick’s and Coffee Works. It is also well known for its theatre and arts with attractions such as The Screen on the Green cinema, Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the Business Design Centre.

Islington is well known for its attractive Georgian terrace houses and Georgian squares. Popular streets include Duncan Terrace and Gibson Square. These properties tend to be owned by families that buy and stay; therefore they don’t often come on the market. High specification, new developments are along the City Road Basin, attracting wealthy young professionals. Quirkier flats are within converted schools, post offices or loft-conversions in Clerkenwell, which are popular among city workers.
