St John's Wood overview

The St John's Wood and Maida Vale area boasts tree-lined residential streets and a village-like community. Its proximity to central London, which is either a brisk walk or two stops on the tube to west London, attracts young professionals who find it hard to leave and eventually stay for the good schools and neighbourly atmosphere. The area offers busy bars, restaurants and boutiques along St John’s Wood High Street, make it a social hub during workdays and weekends alike.
There is also a strong multicultural presence with thriving Jewish, Middle Eastern and American communities, which is reflected in its numerous specialist shops and restaurants. Attractions such as Lord’s Cricket Ground and Abbey Road’s famous pedestrian crossing bring in tourists and sports fans. It’s common to bump into celebrities who also live in this upmarket picturesque area.

Developed from the early 19th century, St John’s Wood and Maida Vale area is one of the few places in London that offer ‘villa’ properties with large gardens on tree lined terraces. This, in conjunction with its proximity to central London, creates some of the most sought after and exclusive properties in London. In the 1960s St John’s Wood was designated a Conservation Area and many of the houses are protected by English Heritage. The area also has many smaller houses in either mews or terrace properties. There are also a few new build portered apartments such as Embassy Court and Pavilion Apartments. Little Venice is known for its charming riverside ‘cottages’. The range of upmarket properties mean there is something for everyone.

"Property activity in the area is strong from investors, young professionals and families alike."

"Families are the key tenant demographic in the area and those properties that are competitively priced and create a good first impression are quickly snapped up. Due to the links of the Jubilee line, St. John’s Wood is particularly popular with corporate applicants. We anticipate a busy spring and summer period as companies relocate senior employees, particularly from North America."

Locals are spoilt with two Royal Parks in the area. Regent’s Park is a recreational paradise with its rose gardens and swan-filled lakes. It is also home to the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre with regular performances on during the summer ranging from Shakespear plays to musicals.
Primrose Hill is another highly regarded London park. The steep hill offers fantastic views across London and, when the weather conditions are right, it is a great place for flying kites. If you are after a stroll, then there are charming canal walks in Little Venice, too.
