Success in planning application for listed Tower Hamlets school

Cluttons planning and regeneration team have a long history of working on this site for the Central Foundation Girls School in Tower Hamlets.

It began with representations made in 2004 on behalf of the school with reference to Tower Hamlets Unitary Development Plan (UDP), their Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD) and their Core Strategy DPD.

More recently we have provided planning consultancy services for the redevelopment of the existing Grade II listed school building located within a conservation area into 36 residential apartments.

Outcome

The application was a revision of an unsuccessful application submitted for 49 units in 2011. The client retained Cluttons services for the resubmission due to the excellent level of service provided to them, despite the decision of Tower Hamlets to refuse the previous scheme. Following various discussions and negotiations, the applications were reported to the Development Committee for consideration where Councillors resolved to grant permission and the Section 106 Agreement was subsequently signed and issued.

How we helped

  • Following the receipt of pre-application advice from Tower Hamlets, planning officers, and a series of public consultation events undertaken in the local area, applications for planning permission, conservation area consent and listed building consent were submitted to the council
  • The application process ran under the auspices of a Planning Performance Agreement. The proposal was for a zero parking scheme with included communal amenity space
  • As well as planning and regeneration, Cluttons provided valuation advice, in particular with regards to housing tenure
